Stingray boasts a large range of features! Not only does it play LIVE TV, Series and Movies but it also allows you to record LIVE TV, has a user-friendly EPG and an easy to use Manager that allows you to manage Favourites, Hide or Lock Categories. It also supports managing Bookmarks and Watchlists.
You can Favourite individual Channels by selecting it and clicking "Favourite Channel" or by double clicking the Channel Name. You can also select multiple Channels and then click "Favourite Channel".
You can Lock or Hide multiple Categories simply by selecting and pressing the appropriate button.
Hiding means the Category will not be shown in the Category view in LIVE TV mode.
Locking means the Category will not show the Channels when selected unless a PIN is entered. The Default PIN is 0000.
To Unhide or Unlock simply select single or multiple Categories and click the appropriate button. You can also double click to Unhide or Unlock an individual Category.
Unfavouriting is the same approach - Select one or many and click Unfavourite or double click a single Channel.
Bookmarks are saved positions of a movie or series episode which
can then be resumed at a later point.
Bookmarks are set by clicking the icon in the Control Panel whilst playing. They're valid for 2 months, when they expire they're automatically removed.
The Watchlist is used to store something that you want to watch another time such as a movie or a TV show.
There are 4 methods of Recording in Stingray:
1 - Record what you're watching (Instant Recording)
2 - Record without playing (instant Recording)
3 - Manual Recording (Scheduled Recording)
4 - Record from the EPG (Scheduled Recording)
The Recording Manager shows scheduled (queued)
recordings in the top group box.
The middle group box shows settings details such as the folder
where recordings will be saved to and in which format.
The Settings screen is accessible from there too so
they can be changed where needed.
The bottom group box shows recordings in the selected folder
where they can also be played or deleted.
It is only possible to record one programme at a time
although you can continue to watch other Channels/Movies or
TV Series at the same time providing you have enough
connections and your bandwidth is capable.
You can edit items in the schedule to change their start and
end times and also what action should occur when the
recording has finished (such as Switch off computer
or Alert user)
The "Recording Now" expander at the top of the screen is only enabled when a recording is active. It shows details about the recording and allows you to stop recording if required.
It can be collapsed to enable you to see more of the screen,
especially if the screen is not maximized.
NOTE: Recording uses a connection for itself - So recording and
watching at the same time will result
in 2 connections being used.
If you only have a single connection, use the
"Record Without Playing" option or add something
to the recording schedule.
Schedule Editor is used to edit the schedule of recordings.
You can also select a Post Recording Action which are:
Nothing, Alert, Shutdown Computer and Sleep Computer.
The EPG lists which programmes are on which channels.
A Category and Channel must be
selected first, then the list of programmes
for the current day are listed below.
Clicking a programme will show the
description for that programme.
You can add the programme to the
recording schedule by double clicking it
or by selecting it and clicking "Add to Schedule".
You can also filter specific days (up to 3 days in the
future) using the calendar.
The Management tab allows you to manage your
subscriptions to EPG's. EPG's labelled as "Auto-Subscribe"
are available by default and cannot be unsubscribed from.
As more EPG's become available you can subscribe to them.
Clicking the EPG will show which channels are included in it.
(The built-in service EPG will not list channels only external ones will)
You can also search the EPG by
clicking the "Search" button.
This allows you to search by the
Programme Title, Description or both.
All subscribed EPG's are searched.
You can choose to view the Channel or add
the Programme to the recording schedule.
The "Favourite Channel" logo shows if the Channel you're
playing is a Favourite. You can add or remove Favourites
by right clicking the Channel in Live TV
or using Channel Manager.
The User Notification Area has multiple icons:
The Eye - Indicates you have Hidden Categories
The Lock - Indicates you have Locked Categories
Bookmark - You have Bookmarks for Movies or Series
REC - Indicates you have Recordings
Download - A new version of the app is available
Cast - You have Castable devices
Playlist - You have items on your Playlist
Alerts - Chip shows how many Alerts you have
The Recording Schedule shows what's next in the queue.
The Time group box shows both local and UK Time and finally
at the bottom the Connections group box shows the
number of connections available and the number in use.
This updates every 5 minutes or whenever you start/stop
playing or recording.
The Control Panel has a host of buttons:
The first 4 are self explanatory and are used to Start/Stop/Pause/Rewind/Fast Forward
The following buttons operate as thus:
Toggle Full Screen
Pop Out Screen
Player Settings (Aspect Ratio/Language/Subtitles)
Used to Start/Stop Instant Recording or stop scheduled Recordings.
It flashes when Recording whether instant or scheduled.
Bookmark the current position (Movie/Series only)
Cast (Start / Stop)
Multi-View (Live TV only)
Toggle Mute
Volume Level
Right clicking the Channel, Series or Movie Name brings up a menu.
In LIVE TV Mode:
Add to Favourites / Remove from Favourites.
The next option advises which Category the item is found in,
useful when found via searching.
Start Instant Recording the selected Channel without playing it
in the view. Useful for single connection subs.
Add a Manual Recording via the Recording Manager Edit tab.
In Series Mode:
Add to Watchlist / Remove from Watchlist
The next one advises which Genre the TV Show is in
In Movie mode:
Add to Watchlist / Remove from Watchlist
Add to Playlist / Remove from Playlist
Play Title Now (Instead of opening Movie Explorer)
The last one advises which Genre the Movie is in
The application scans for Castable devices at startup.
If any devices are found then an icon appears
in theUser Notification Area.
Clicking the icon will bring up the list of devices.
To Cast to a device simply click the icon on the Control Panel.
If you only have 1 Castable device then Casting defaults to that,
if you have more than 1 device then you will be asked
which device to cast to.
The icon acts as a toggle (Cast on / Cast off)
You can choose to start Casting before you start playing or
start playing then switch to Casting.
Note: The application only supports Chromecast at this time.
Multi-View allows you to view 2 TV Channels at the same time.
Click the icon to load Multi-View:
If a Channel is already playing then it will be stopped and
resume on the Left Hand Pane.
If nothing is playing when Multi-View is launched then you
can right click each pane to bring up the Channel selector.
Series Episodes and Movies can be added to the Playlist.
You can add selected Episodes of a Series or
an entire Season in one go via the
Series Explorer.
Movies are added in the Movie Explorer or by right
clicking the Movie name in the movie window.
Items are displayed in the order
they're added - oldest to newest but you can
change the sort order on the grid.
Double click to launch the item or click the appropriate button.
